Mike Hample

Mike Hample became the Mount Aloysius men's tennis coach in the fall of 2013. He completed his fifth season with the program in the spring of 2018, while also taking the helm of the women's tennis program in August of 2016.

Hample led both the men's and women's programs to AMCC Tournament appearances in 2018-19. The men's team produced a 10-5 overall record, including a 4-2 record in AMCC competition. They lost in the semi-finals of the AMCC Tournament. Hample was named the AMCC Men's Tennis Coach of the Year. In addition to his accomplishments with the men's team, the women's program performed even better, including a trip to the AMCC Tournament Championship match. The women went an overall 14-3, and 6-2 in AMCC play. Not only did Hample mentor many All-AMCC performers in 2018-19, he also had the Faculty Athletic Representatives (FARs) Award winners in twins, Nick and Emily Goldyn. Emily was also chosen as the AMCC Woman of the Year for 2018-19.

After two years of building up the roster, Hample and the Mountie men had a breakthrough season in the spring of 2016.  Mount Aloysius had an overall record of 8-6 and reached the AMCC Playoffs for the first time in program history. For his efforts, Hample was named the AMCC Coach of the Year.
In his first season with the women's program in the fall of 2016, Hample guided the Mounties to the AMCC playoffs. He followed that up with leading the men's team to its second straight playoff appearance in the spring of 2017.

Hample has played competitive tennis for over 35 years. He is still active player as he won his age bracket at the PA State Senior Games in 2010. At the collegiate coaching level, he was hired to reinstitute the men's tennis team at Juniata College in 2000 and coached the team until a job move to Erie, PA in 2002. Upon returning to the area in 2005, Hample became the Tyrone High School girl's head tennis coach in 2005 and reinstituted the men's tennis team at Tyrone in 2009. He coached both the men and women at Tyrone up until 2012.1714

Hample retired as a Captain from the Pennsylvania State Police in 2005 after over 32 years of service. He moved into teaching at Tyrone High School from 2005 to 2011 and now works full-time as a safety officer at Mount Aloysius. In addition, he teaches criminal justice part-time at the South Hills School.

Hample is married and has four children, one of which is currently a student at Mount Aloysius.
