Men's Soccer Wins Third in a Row to Capture Playoff Berth

Box Score
Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's soccer team reached the AMCC playoffs for the first time in school history as it won its third game in a row with a 2-1 comeback victory over visiting Franciscan in AMCC action on Tuesday afternoon.

The Mounties dominated play early and just missed on a number of chances from close range. Jim Smith was just high on a volley in the early going, and Patrick Chea sailed a volley high midway through the first period of play. The Barons answered with a penalty kick opportunity in the 34th minute that gave the visitors a 1-0 lead heading into the half.

Mount Aloysius kept coming offensively, however, and their pressure was rewarded in the 60th minute as Smith buried his ninth goal of the year following a scramble in front of the net. Five minutes later, Kevin Ouellette scored on a header off of a beautiful cross from Smith to make it 2-1 in favor of the Mount.

The Mounties defense, led by Xavier Cardona, Winston Crozier, Molia Sesay, Todd Azeles and goalkeeper James Antonopolos, stayed strong in the closing moments to seal the victory.

With the win, the Mounties will now travel as the #5 seed in the conference tournament to face #4 Penn State-Altoona on Saturday, at a time yet to be determined. Penn State-Altoona defeated Mount Aloysius 2-1 in double overtime on its home field in the team's regular season matchup on October 15th.
