Men's Soccer Advances in AMCC Playoffs

Faces Medaille College in AMCC Final Four

Box Score
Altoona, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's soccer team won their first playoff game in school history with a 2-0 victory over host Penn State-Altoona on Saturday afternoon at Spring Run Stadium.

Against a heavy wind in the first half, the Mount had trouble generating any offense. However, goalkeeper James Antonopolos and the Mountie backline held strong and the two sides went into halftime deadlocked at 0-0.

The Mount struck for the first goal of the game just 1:33 into the second half. Patrick Chea dove in front of the Altoona keeper and headed home a Winston Crozier free kick off of one bounce. The Mount continued to put the pressure on throughout the second half. Kevin Ouellette won the ball off of an Altoona defender and appeared to have a goal, but another Altoona defender cleared the ball off of the line to keep the score at 1-0. Minutes later, John Ouellette pushed the ball down the right wing and found Chea in front of goal, but his shot went inches wide.

Mount Aloysius found its second goal off of the foot of Kevin Ouellette. Ouellette hit home the rebound off of a goalkeeper misplay on a Crozier free kick from the midfield line to make it a 2-0 game with ten minutes to play.

The Lions had two chances late as Quinn Oyler's header went off of the crossbar, and a goal by Karl Stephan was called back due to offsides.

With the victory, Mount Aloysius has now won four games in a row and will travel to Buffalo on Wednesday for an AMCC semifinal against Medaille College. The Mavericks defeated the Mounties 2-1 in Cresson on October 12th.
