Cresson, PA- The Mount Aloysius men's soccer team evened their record to 2-2 with a 1-0 victory at home over Penn State-Harrisburg on Saturday afternoon.
Mount Aloysius and Penn State-Harrisburg battled for play early on before a Harrisburg handball gave the Mounties a penalty kick. However, the Mount's Patrick Chea ripped his attempt off the post to keep the score deadlocked. Neither team found any quality chances for the remainder of the half until Austin Old found himself free towards the end of the half on a cross from Molia Sesay, but Old hit his volley over the bar. The two teams went into the break at 0-0.
Chea made up for the missed PK with the goal of the season to this point. He turned off a pass from Sesay and lasered a shot in the upper corner from 25 yards out to give the Mount a 1-0 lead one minute into the second half.
Harrisburg applied pressure throughout the remainder of the game, but goalkeeper James Antonopolos and the Mountie defense were up to the task in recording their second shutout of the season.
Antonopolos made seven saves, including a diving stop with seconds to play to preserve the victory. Deven Gerhart stopped three shots for Harrisburg.
Mount Aloysius will be back in action on Thursday with a trip to Juniata. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
