Box Score Buffalo, NY - The Mount Aloysius men's soccer team had a number of chances in the closing stages of the second half, but were unable to convert and fell 1-0 to host Medaille College in AMCC action on Sunday afternoon.
After falling into a 1-0 hole heading into the half and limiting the Mavericks chances in the second period of play, the Mounties pushed ahead in the latter stages of the contest.
Winston Crozier had a free kick in the 77th minute that had to be tipped over the bar by Medaille keeper Erik Szczerba. A minute later,
Jim Smith had a good chance inside the box but his shot went just high.
In the 87th minute,
Xavier Cardona broke through the Maverick defense but his shot went wide right and the Mavericks ran out the clock.
In the first half, Medaille controlled possession early on, but
Justin Hann and the Mountie defense kept the home team off the board despite a number of free kicks within shooting range. The Mavericks broke the scoreless tie in the 42nd minute off of a Mountie clearance error led to Jaime Salcedo scoring with three minutes left in the half.
Mount Aloysius falls to 3-3-1 in the AMCC with two matches to go, and return to the field at home against Penn State Behrend on Saturday at 3 p.m.
