Altoona Sneaks Past Men's Soccer

Box Score
Cresson, PA - In their regular season finale, the Mount Aloysius men's soccer team was defeated by visiting Penn State Altoona 1-0 on Tuesday afternoon in AMCC action.

Prior to the game, the Mounties recognized seniors Austin Old, Xavier Cardona and Zach Whittington for their contributions to the men's soccer program.

In a defensive battle between the two sides, the Mounties outshot the Lions 4-3 in the opening 45 minutes. However, neither team could find the game's opening goal and the teams went into halftime tied 0-0.

The Mounties got a great chance in the beginning of the second half as Jim Smith found a cross from the left wing, but his shot was hit right at Altoona keeper Tanner Kreisher. Altoona broke the scoreless tie in 59th minute as Seth Murrelle struck for a goal to give the visitors the advantage. Mount Aloysius couldn't net the equalizer down the stretch.

Justin Hann made five stops in net for the Mounties, while Kreisher had three saves in 74 minutes of action for Altoona.

The Mounties will return to the field on Saturday afternoon for a first-round AMCC playoff game versus La Roche College. The Mounties will square off against the Redhawks at 2 p.m. at La Roche. La Roche edged the Mounties 2-1 on October 14th in their regular season matchup.
