Box Score Pittsburgh, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's soccer team knocked off #4 seed La Roche College by a final score of 4-2 on Saturday afternoon on the road advance to the AMCC Final Four for the second consecutive season.
The Mounties came out flying from the start as they struck for two goals in the opening seven minutes of the contest.
Xavier Cardona put Mount Aloysius on the board as he knocked in a header less than five minutes into the game. Two and a half minutes later,
Winston Crozier lasered in a low cross that was deflected in by
Patrick Chea to give the Mounties an early 2-0 lead.
The host Redhawks responded right away with two goals of their own just three minutes apart in the 12th and 15th minute of play. Freddie Jones scored off of a throw in, and Dave Hidinger knocked in a header off of a nice feed from Ryan Luffey.
The game finally settled down as both teams settled in defensively. The first half of play would end 2-2 as each team registered five shots.
In the second half, the back-and-forth affair continued until Crozier struck for a goal off of a free kick from 35 yards out that found the top right corner to make it a 3-2 game with 37:47 left to play. The Mounties then had to dig in defensively to keep the Redhawks off the board for the remainder of the contest.
With 14:51 to play,
Kevin Ouellette provided a needed insurance goal to create a 4-2 advantage after a cross from Chea was redirected by
Aubrey Brown. Mount Aloysius remainded steady defensively to secure the first-round playoff win.
Crozier led the Mounties in shots with four, while Chea had three. Goalkeeper
Justin Hann notched two saves to earn the win.
Mount Aloysius has now earned a semifinal matchup at top-seeded Penn State Behrend, who defeated the Mounties 2-0 on October 25th. The Mounties will play Behrend on Wednesday at 2 pm.
