Box Score Cresson, PA - After falling in an early hole, the Mount Aloysius women's basketball team responded to break away from visiting Franciscan and defeat the Barons 70-47 on Wednesday evening in an AMCC opener for both teams.
The visiting Barons led by 13 at 18-5 with 10:35 to go in the first half, but the Mounties responded with a 22-7 run to take a 27-25 lead heading into the half. The Mounties continued to push the pace and extended their advantage to 45-29 with 12:13 to go in the second half. Mount Aloysius kept the visitors at bay throughout the remainder of the second half led by the strong play of
Abbie Zinobile in the paint.
Zinobile finished with 16 points and nine rebounds for the Mounties.
Haley Bender also ended in double figures off the bench with 12 points, while
Abby Kulick and
Morgan Brosnihan each contributed nine points.
Alexis Restori dished a game-high five assists, while
Kara Cordell registered six points and nine boards.
The Mounties shot 15-for-31 in the second half as they outscored the Barons 43-22 in the second period of play.
Mount Aloysius returns to action on Saturday with a home contest against Hilbert College at 1 p.m.
