Box Score Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's basketball team earned an AMCC victory with an 88-83 victory over crosstown rival Penn State Altoona on Wednesday evening.
Shawn Greenfield dropped in 30 points to lead the Mount while adding five rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Dameon Turner registered 16 points and seven boards, and
Dillon Bender was in double figures with 14 points.
Davario Barksdale added nine points, five rebounds and five steals.
In the first half, Altoona took an early lead before the Mounties tied it at 17-17 on a jumper courtesy of Greenfield with just over 12 minutes on the clock. Altoona created a 24-19 lead on the strength of Michael Wigfield's 5-for-5 shooting, but the Mounties responded once again to end the half.
Nolan Doyle drilled a three to provide the home side with a 52-40 lead with just over three minutes to go, and he added another three-point shot as time wound down to give the Mounties a 56-48 edge heading into the break.
The Mounties kept Altoona at bay in the early part of the second half, and two Greenfield free throws followed by a layup brought the lead to 11 nearly halfway through the second period. Altoona responded with a strong run and eventually took a 78-75 lead on a three from Wigfield with six minutes left. The two sides went back-and-forth until
Dillon Bender dropped in a triple to give the Mount a 81-79 advantage with 3:37 remaining. Altoona couldn't regain the lead in the final moments as the Mounties escaped with the victory.
With the win, Mount Aloysius improves to 10-11 overall and 7-8 in conference play.
