Women's Basketball Defeats Franciscan

Steubenville, OH - The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team locked down on the defensive end once again as they defeated host Franciscan by a score of 59-49 in AMCC action on Wednesday evening.

Defensively, the Mounties limited the Barons to 17-for-63 (27%) shooting on the night and forced 20 turnovers. Mount Aloysius was able to score 20 points off turnovers compared to seven for Franciscan.

On the offensive end, Becky Bard led all scorers with 16 points on 6-for-7 shooting to go with four rebounds and four steals. Alexis Restori recorded 13 points, and Ali Maruca put forth a good all-around effort with seven points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals.

After a back-and-forth first half, the Mounties went on a 8-2 run to end the first period capped by a Lauren Gross layup to give themselves a 36-30 lead heading into the break. Restori then made the first two baskets of the second half to provide a double-digit advantage. The Mounties kept up the defensive effort and never lost the lead down the stretch to record the victory.

With the win, Mount Aloysius earns its 12th conference win of the season, which is a program record for women's basketball.

The Mounties improve to 14-10 overall and 12-5 in conference and now stand in sole possession of third place with one game to play. They will wrap up their regular season on Saturday at home against D'Youville, with a win ensuring them a third-place finish heading into the conference playoffs. Mount Aloysius will honor Maruca, Lauryn Colmer and Lindsy Sammarco as part of Senior Day on Saturday.
