Baseball Falls in Season Opener

Winchester, VA - The Mount Aloysius baseball team fell victim to hot-hitting Shenandoah University on Monday afternoon in their season opener, as they lost to the host Hornets by a score of 16-0 in non-conference action.

The Mounties did register eight hits on the day offensively, as Cory Dick went 3-for-4 at the plate and Dylan Oswalt went 2-for-4 for the visitors. Benjamin Legath (double) and Seth Shaffer (single) also produced one hit each.

Derrick Capiak got the start on the mound for the Mount, and he held Shenandoah to one run in the first four innings. However, Shenandoah (who is receiving votes in the national polls) scored seven runs apiece in the 5th and 6th innings to take control of the game on their way to the win.

Mount Aloysius will return to action on March 8th as part of their spring trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
