Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team used a strong first half and well-balanced team effort to defeat visiting D'Youville 71-54 in an AMCC first round playoff game on Tuesday evening.
Becky Bard led the Mount in scoring with 19 points on 6-for-9 shooting while adding five steals.
Alexis Restori shot 11-for-14 from the free throw line to finish with 13 points.
Abbie Zinobile and
Kaleigh Roop were dominant inside as both recorded double-doubles. Zinobile had 10 points, 11 boards and five blocks while Roop registered 12 points and 12 rebounds off the bench.
Leading 14-12 with 10:38 to play in the first half, the Mounties went on a 11-0 run capped by a
Lindsy Sammarco jumper with 7:16 to play to increase their lead to 25-12. They eventually took a 34-17 lead into the halftime and led by double digits throughout the second half until D'Youville cut the deficit to eight with 2:02 to play. The Mounties hit seven of ten free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.
For the game, Mount Aloysius shot 29-for-42 from the free throw line, while D'Youville was 13-for-21.
The Mounties advance to the AMCC semifinals on Friday evening and will face #2 seed Medaille at 8 pm at La Roche College. Live video and stats for the game can be found at
