Women's Basketball Falls in AMCC Championship Game

Pittsburgh, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team fell by a score of 91-55 to La Roche College on Saturday afternoon in the AMCC championship game.

The loss ends a great run for the Mounties, who finish the season with an overall record of 17-11. The Mount defeated D'Youville in the opening round of the AMCC playoffs and upset #2 seed Medaille College in the semifinals to reach the AMCC championship game for the first time in program history.

Becky Bard led the Mounties with 15 points, including a trio of three-point shots. Abbie Zinobile also finished in double figures with 10 points. Lindsy Sammarco added nine points, five assists and four rebounds while Ali Maruca notched eight points while dishing four assists.

The Mounties hung tough early and trailed 18-15 after Maruca made two free throws with 11:45 to play in the opening half. La Roche then opened up a 21-4 run over the next eight minutes to seize control, and the home side took a 48-28 lead into the break. La Roche extended on their advantage in the second half while earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and their fourth consecutive AMCC championship.

The Mounties will bid farewell to Sammarco, Maruca and Lauryn Colmer. During their time in the Mount Aloysius program, the women's basketball team compiled 59 victories and reached the AMCC semifinals on three occasions in addition to their championship appearance as seniors.
