Altoona, PA - The Mount Aloysius baseball team used two strong pitching efforts from Derrick Capiak and Benjamin Legath to open up AMCC play with a two-game sweep of host Penn State Altoona on Tuesday afternoon.

In game one, Capiak allowed just two hits and one unearned run while striking out 11 in a complete-game victory. He also struck out the side in the bottom of the first. Legath followed that up with a complete-game performance in the second game, as he struck out six and allowed two hits on the mound.

In game one, Bryn Brown brought home Ian Helsel to make it 1-0 in the first inning, and the Mounties tacked on another in their first at-bat. Up 3-1 in the seventh inning, Jesse Bortner drove in a run, and Capiak shut the door in the bottom of the inning to record the win. Helsel, Connor Bowie, Bortner and Legath all had two hits apiece in the first game.

In game two, the Mounties broke the deadlock with three runs in the third inning, capped by an RBI single from Cory Dick. Dick had two hits and two RBIs in the second game, and Bowie continued his hot hitting with two more singles.
