Derrick Capiak allowed just five hits in a complete-game shutout as the Mount Aloysius baseball team split a doubleheader with Penn State Behrend on Saturday afternoon, winning game one behind Capiak 2-0 before falling 8-2 in game two.
Capiak struck out 11 in a dominanting stint on the mound. Behrend got just two singles in the first and fifth innings. Offensively,
Patrick Gully ripped an RBI single in the fourth to break the deadlock, and
Ian Helsel scored off an error in the fifth inning.
The Mounties fell into a 2-0 hole in game two before evening things up at 2-2 on an RBI single from
Dylan Oswalt and RBI groundout courtesy of
Bryn Brown. Behrend scored three runs in the fourth and extended the advantage to 8-2 in the seventh inning.
Benjamin Legath was handed the loss in game two, as he allowed four earned runs in three innings.
