Box Score 2 Hamburg, NY - The Mount Aloysius baseball team defeated host Hilbert 6-1 in game one before falling 10-4 in game two in an AMCC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
In game one,
Nicholas DiDiano was effective on the mound throughout as he allowed eight hits and one earned run in a complete game effort.
The Mounties scored first in the top of the second inning as
Cory Dick homered to left field to make it a 1-0 ballgame. The score remained 1-0 until Mount Aloysius dropped three runs in the sixth inning highlighted by RBI singles from
Patrick Gully and
Seth Shaffer. The visitors added two more in the seventh on an RBI single from
Connor Bowie and sacrifice fly from Dick to make it 6-0.
Benjamin Legath finished 3-for-4 in game one, and Bowie added two hits.
In game one, Hilbert took immediate control with six runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Mounties cut the deficit to 6-4 with two runs apiece in the third and fourth innings. Legath and Dick registered RBIs, and a Bowie single brought in two more. Hilbert regained control with four more runs in the bottom of the fifth, and the Mounties failed to generate more offense.
Bowie added two more hits in game two to finish with four on the day, and is now hitting .469 on the season.
Ian Helsel scored two runs.
The Mounties now stand 14-15 overall and 7-3 in conference play.
