Legath, Capiak Fuel Game One Win in Split at Bradford

Bradford, PA - Led by another stellar pitching performance from Derrick Capiak and five RBIs from Benjamin Legath, the Mount Aloysius baseball team won game one 10-3 before falling 5-4 in game two in an AMCC doubleheader at Pitt-Bradford on Sunday afternoon.

In game one, Capiak threw a complete game while allowing nine hits and three runs (one earned). He struck out five. The junior ace is now 4-1 in conference play and has allowed just two earned runs in 28.1 innings. In all four of his conference starts, Capiak has registered a complete-game victory.

Mount Aloysius and Bradford went back-and-forth early as the Mounties led 4-3 after two innings. In the top of the fourth, the Mounties scored four runs highlighted by a double from Legath that brought in two. Legath then advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a throwing error from the Bradford catcher to make it 8-3. The Mounties added two more runs in the seventh, and Capiak held Bradford scoreless over its final four at-bats. 

Legath went 3-for-4 with two doubles and five RBIs in game one. Ian Helsel scored three runs from the leadoff spot, and Bryn Brown added two hits and two runs scored.

In game two, the Mounties held a 1-0 lead before Bradford plated four runs in the bottom of the fourth. The visitors rallied, scoring one in the fifth and two in the sixth to tie up the ballgame at 4-4. In the bottom of the sixth, Bradford loaded the bases and scored a run off of a fielder's choice with one out to take a 5-4 advantage. The Mounties went down in order in their final at-bat.

Legath started game two on the hill for Mount Aloysius, throwing 5.1 innings while allowing five runs (three earned) and striking out six. Offensively, Helsel and Brown each record one RBI in game two.

Mount Aloysius now stands at 15-16 overall and in a three-way tie for second place in the AMCC with an 8-4 conference record.
