Baseball Sweeps D'Youville

Johnstown, PA - The Mount Aloysius baseball team received outstanding pitching performances from Derrick Capiak and Benjamin Legath and swept visiting D'Youville by scores of 8-0 and 10-1 on Sunday afternoon in an AMCC doubleheader at Point Stadium in Johnstown.

In game one, Capiak spun a complete game while allowing just two hits and striking out ten. The Mounties scored in every at-bat besides the fifth inning, as Bryn Brown, Connor Bowie and Patrick Gully all recorded two hits for the home side. Bowie added an RBI double to make it 1-0 in the first inning, and capped the Mountie scoring with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.

In game two, Legath nearly matched Capiak's performance as he allowed one earned run and six hits in six innings on the mound. Seven different Mounties recorded runs and RBIs in a well-balanced effort. Leading the offensive output was Brock Gladfelter, who drove in three runs with a double in the second inning to make it a 4-0 ballgame. Gladfelter scored later in the inning and added a run in the bottom of the sixth that made it 8-0 in favor of the Mounties. Brown added two hits once again to go along with two RBI's.

Mount Aloysius improves to 4-0 in AMCC play and 9-11 overall. They will travel to Stevenson on Tuesday for a non-conference matchup against the Mustangs.
