Box Score 2 Huntington, PA - After a Juniata comeback resulted in a 9-6 loss for Mount Aloysius in game one,
Patrick Gully struck for an RBI double in the top of the seventh in game two as the Mounties earned a doubleheader split with an 8-7 win on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.
In game one, the Mounties dropped five runs on the Eagles in the top of the second as
Brock Gladfelter and
Bryn Brown recorded RBI doubles, and
Connor Bowie and
Benjamin Legath followed with back-to-back RBI singles. Juniata gradually cut into the deficit with two runs in the third inning and one run in the fourth inning before taking the lead in the bottom of the fifth as the home side put four runs across the plate.
Cameron Kyle got the starting nod for the Mounties and threw just over four innings while giving up six earned runs.
William McCabe was handed the loss in relief.
In game two, Mount Aloysius again put up a five-spot to begin the scoring as they scored five runs in their first at-bat. Legath was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and
Cory Dick ripped a single throw the left side to bring in Bowie and Brown. Dick later scored on a fielder's choice to make it 4-0, and
Jesse Bortner came around on a throwing error to create the 5-0 advantage.
Each side added a run apiece in the second and third innings to make it a 7-2 ballgame before Juniata looked for another comeback attempt. The home side tied the score with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie things up at 7-7. In the top of the seventh, Dick doubled to right center to begin the inning. With one out, Gully recorded the game-winning double that brought in pinch runner
Brandon Rauhauser.
Rodney Patterson earned the victory in relief for the Mounties, as he threw 1.2 innings and allowed no runs.
The Mounties move to 11-12 overall and are back in action on Saturday with a conference doubleheader at home against Penn State Behrend.
