Box Score Buffalo, NY - The Mount Aloysius men's soccer team received goals from four different players as the Mounties defeated D'Youville College by a score of 4-2 on Saturday afternoon in the AMCC opener for both teams.
Patrick Chea got the Mounties off to a fast start as he made a run across the box and knocked in a cross from
Jim Smith just four minutes into the game to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage. The score remained 1-0 until D'Youville scored off of a corner kick opportunity. With the game at 1-1 and the half winding down, the Mount's
Xavier Cardona gathered a corner kick from Smith at the back post and lasered in a shot to the back post to make it 2-1 Mount Aloysius heading into the break.
The Mounties increased their lead midway through the second period of play when
Ricky Abbs played a beautiful through ball to the streaking
Graham Hunter. Hunter's shot skimmed off the post and found the back of the net to make it 3-1.
Nathan Bain closed out the scoring for Mount Aloysius as he whipped in a free kick from the right wing that found the bottom corner of the near post to increase the lead to 4-1 with just over ten minutes on the clock.
D'Youville added a second goal in the 86th minute, but the Mountie defense and
Justin Hann held strong to preserve their first conference victory and second win in a row.
Hann recorded three saves in net for the Mounties. Smith, Chea and Hunter each registered three shots in the attack.
The Mounties return to the field on Tuesday when they travel to Franciscan for a 4 p.m. conference matchup.
