Box Score Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team had a tough time getting anything going on the offensive end as the Mounties fell 61-50 to visiting D'Youville on Saturday afternoon in AMCC action.
The Mounties shot just 17-for-69 (24.6%) from the field for the game.
Haley Bender led the Mounties with 12 points, as she hit four shots from behind the arc.
Abbie Zinobile also finished in double figures with 11 points to go with eight rebounds, three blocks and two steals.
Abby Kulick registered nine rebounds and two steals, while
Morgan Brosnihan grabbed eight boards and dished three assists.
Mount Aloysius stayed in the game throughout due to its strong defense. The Mounties held the Spartans to 27.3% shooting from the floor and forced 12 D'Youville turnovers.
The Mounties jumped out to a 6-0 lead before D'Youville responded to eventually take a 17-10 lead. Mount Aloysius chipped away at the lead and trailed 26-24 heading into the halftime break. The game remained close throughout the second half as the two sides were tied at 38-38 with 11:39 left to play. Over the next three and a half minutes, the Spartans went on a 10-0 run to take control. Mount Aloysius cut the deficit to five on a Kulick free throw with 1:25 remaining, but couldn't complete the comeback.
Mount Aloysius falls to 3-3 in conference play and 6-5 overall. They return to action tomorrow at 1 p.m. when they will host Pitt-Bradford.
