Barons Top Mounties, 65-59

Steubenville, OH - The Mount Aloysius men's basketball team took a tough 65-59 loss to host Franciscan University on Wednesday evening in AMCC action.

In a defensive battle throughout, Franciscan held a 10-9 lead just over eight minutes into the game before going on an 8-0 run in a minute and a half to lead by nine points with 10:22 left in the period. Down by nine with the half winding down, the Mount's Nolan Doyle hit two free throws with 45 seconds remaining to cut the deficit to 29-22 heading into the half.

The Barons held a slim advantage throughout the second half that increased to a ten-point lead at 46-36 with five minutes to play. Still down by ten points with 1:45 left to go, Mount Aloysius went on an 8-1 run in less than a minute to cut the lead to 55-52 with 52 seconds on the clock. Franciscan would hold on as the Barons hit 10 of 12 free throws to close out the contest and earn the victory.

Despite being slowed by foul trouble, Arin Wade scored 22 points in 23 minutes of action for the Mounties. Darius Beresford also finished in double figures with 10 points on 4-for-4 shooting from the field. Tanner Thomas added seven points and eight rebounds for the Mounties.

Franciscan finished with four players in double figures and outrebounded Mount Aloysius by a 30-23 margin. Both teams found much of their offense at the free throw line. The Mounties converted 23 of 34 attempts, while the Barons shot 30 for 38.

Mount Aloysius falls to 6-11 overall and 4-6 in conference play. They return to the court on Saturday with a road contest at Hilbert set for 3 p.m.
