Abby Kulick, the Mount Aloysius women's basketball team got back on the winning track with a 62-50 victory over Franciscan University on Wednesday evening in AMCC action.
Kulick shot 10-for-12 from the field, 4-for-5 from three-point range and 6-for-9 from the free throw line to lead the Mountie attack. She also added seven rebounds and three steals.
Olivia Rupp scored nine points and
Alexis Restori added eight.
Morgan Brosnihan also grabbed seven rebounds, while Restori and
Kara Cordell each registered three steals defensively.
Abbie Zinobile rejected four shots on the inside.
Despite giving up 18 offensive rebounds, Mount Aloysius limited Franciscan to 16-for-74 (21.6%) shooting from the field and forced 20 turnovers. The Mounties also made their mark at the free throw line, as they made 23 of 33 free throw attempts.
The first half started out as a defensive battle before the visiting Mounties gradually began to pull away. Holding a 13-10 advantage with 11:46 left on the clock, Mount Aloysius went on a 17-5 run to close out the remainder of the half to take a commanding 30-15 lead into the break. The Mounties led 38-24 with 14:33 remaining in the game when Franciscan made a strong comeback attempt, eventually cutting the deficit to three points at 40-37 with 7:07 left on the clock. Kulick responded with five straight points, and a layup from Restori pushed the advantage back to ten points with 5:09 to go. The Barons would get no closer than seven points down at the stretch as the Mounties snapped a four-game losing streak.
Mount Aloysius improves to 7-8 overall and 4-6 in conference play. The Mounties currently sit just behind D'Youville and Medaille (both 4-5) for the fifth and sixth spots in the standings. They return to action on Saturday with a road matchup at Hilbert College scheduled for 1 p.m.
