Box Score Hamburg, NY - Despite a double-double effort of 20 points and 15 rebounds from
Tanner Thomas, the Mount Aloysius men's basketball team was defeated 89-70 by Hilbert on Saturday afternoon in AMCC action.
Thomas shot 9-for-11 from the field and grabbed eight of his rebounds on the offensive end. The senior forward added four blocks and two steals. Starting for the first time this season, freshman
Darius Beresford scored 16 points and notched six rebounds and four assists.
Arin Wade added 11 points and five boards, while
Nolan Doyle and
Tre Brown each registered three steals.Â
The Hawks jumped on the Mounties early as they raced to an 11-1 lead less than four minutes into the game. The lead would hover around double digits until two free throws from Wade at the 7:02 mark cut the deficit to six points. However, the Hawks got the lead back to double digits and held a 41-31 advantage at the half. The lead stayed near double digits throughout the second half of play. Mount Aloysius cut the deficit to 12 points on two occassions in the final four minutes, but couldn't get any closer down the stretch.
The Mounties outrebounded the Hawks 41-34, but the hosts shot 32-for-63 (50.8%) while the Mounties shot 24-for-59 (40.9%). Mount Aloysius was also hurt by 27 turnovers on the offensive end.
Hilbert had five players in double figures led by 20 points from Jerame Owens, who also scored the 1,000th point of his career on the game's first basket.
With the defeat, the Mounties drop to 6-12 overall and 4-7 in conference play. They will look to get back into the win column on Wednesday with a trip to La Roche.
