Mounties Earn Overtime Victory over Hawks

Hamburg, NY - All five starters scored in double figures as the Mount Aloysius women's basketball team escaped with an overtime victory by a final score of 89-84 over host Hilbert on Saturday afternoon in conference action.

Abbie Zinobile scored a game-high 18 points and added nine rebounds and two blocks for the Mounties. Alexis Restori (15), Abby Kulick (14), Olivia Rupp (12) and Morgan Brosnihan (10) all finished in doubles figures, while Sydney Horel and Kara Cordell each added eight points off the bench. Rupp and Horel both recorded seven rebounds, and Restori and Brosnihan each dished six assists on the offensive end.

The two teams traded baskets early as a Horel jump shot gave the Mounties a 13-12 advantage with 12:48 remaining in the first half. Hilbert soon took the lead and expanded it to as much as nine points before taking a 39-32 advantage into the halftime break.

The Mounties made a run to start the second half and led 46-45 after Brosnihan drilled a three-point shot with 16:36 remaining. Mount Aloysius would hold on to a small lead throughout the second half until Hilbert regained the lead on a jumper with 3:26 left in regulation. With the scored tied at 74-74 with less than a minute to play, Brosnihan drew a foul and was good on two free throws to provide the visitors with a two-point lead with 36 seconds left. Hilbert's Amber Hay completed a layup 11 seconds later to tie things up, and Horel and Rupp both missed shots in the final eight seconds to send the game to overtime.

Mount Aloysius scored 13 points in the overtime session, and all came from the free throw line. Zinobile went 8-for-8 at the line over the first four minutes of overtime to provide the Mounties only points, and her final two free throws provided an 84-82 lead with 1:18 to go. The Mounties forced two Hawk turnovers in their next two possessions, and Restori sealed with game with a 4-for-4 showing at the line in the final 14 seconds.

Hilbert had seven players finish in double figures in scoring, with Kelsi Ebert and Hay leading the team with 16 points each.

The Mounties improve to 8-8 overall and 5-6 in conference play. They return to action Monday evening when they will host Stevenson University at 7 p.m. in a non-conference matchup.
