Men's Basketball Notches Win at La Roche

Pittsburgh, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's basketball team got back on the winning track as the Mounties defeated La Roche 74-57 on Wednesday evening on the road in AMCC conference action.

Mount Aloysius was led offensively by the trio of Dillon Bender, Tanner Thomas and Arin Wade. Bender scored a game-high 19 points as he shot 6-for-14 from three-point range. Thomas recorded another double-double effort with 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Wade scored 15 points. Tre Brown registered four assists off the bench as the Mounties assisted on 17 of 29 made field goals.

Just over five minutes into the game, the Mounties led 13-7 after a Darius Beresford scored on a layup following a steal. Holding a three-point advantage with 11:24 on the clock, Mount Aloysius went on a quick 11-3 run capped by a Joe Dziabo bucket to take a 26-15 lead. The Mounties led by 14 before a La Roche three-point shot cut the gap to 40-29 heading into halftime. In the second half, the Mounties kept their lead near double digits and gradually increased the advantage. A Wade basket with 8:53 remaining increased the lead to 62-46, and Nolan Doyle scored with 4:38 to go to gave the visitors their largest lead of the game at 69-50 on their way to the victory.

Zaire Redding led the way for the Redhawks with 16 points, four rebounds and three steals.

Mount Aloysius held a significant edge in the turnover battle. While the Mounties forced 21 La Roche turnovers, they committed just 11 on the offensive end of the floor. The teams were close to even in rebounding and field goal percentage, and both teams struggled in limited attempts from the free throw line.

The Mounties improve to 5-7 in conference play with the win and now are in sixth place in the standings. Mount Aloysius returns to the court on Saturday with a home matchup against Medaille at 3 p.m.
