Box Score Pittsburgh, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team fell by a final score of 71-59 to host La Roche on Wednesday evening on the road in AMCC play.
Abby Kulick led the Mounties balanced scoring attack with 13 points along with five rebounds.
Olivia Rupp also finished in double figures with 10 points while adding eight rebounds.
Haley Bender and
Kara Cordell each contributed nine points off the Mountie bench, and
Abbie Zinobile scored eight points.
Alexis Restori was strong in distribution on the offensive end as she recorded seven assists.
Mount Aloysius jumped out to an early 8-2 advantage as Kulick made a layup then drilled back-to-back three point shots. The Mounties continued to lead early on until a La Roche basket with 12:39 to play gave the Redhawks a 13-12 lead. After
Sydney Horel was good on a layup with 11:45 on the clock to cut the gap to 15-14, the home team pulled away in the second portion of the opening period. La Roche went on a 15-4 run that provided a 30-18 lead before the hosts took a 33-23 advantage into the halftime break. Throughout the second half, the Mounties kept the deficit near single digits. The lead was cut to eight points at 63-55 with 3:15 remaining in the game, but the Mounties wouldn't get any closer in the final minutes.
The Mounties defense played well throughout as they limited the highly potent Redhawks offense to 38.7% shooting from the field. Mount Aloysius also forced 20 La Roche turnovers. The host Redhawks made their mark on the offensive glass, however, as they registered 20 offensive rebounds on the evening. La Roche outrebounded Mount Aloysius by a 51-30 overall margin.
Lashauna Brothers paced La Roche with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Sabrina McLin added 17 points and six boards.
Mount Aloysius drops to 8-9 overall and 5-7 in conference action. The Mounties return to the court on Saturday with a home matchup against Medaille College at 1 p.m.
