Box Score Scranton, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team scored a season-high 87 points as the Mounties defeated the Keystone College Giants 87-80 on Saturday afternoon in their opening game at the Marywood University Tournament.
Five Mount Aloysius players finished in doubles figures led by Alexia Servello, who notched 15 points, dished six assists and had two steals. Haley Bender had 14 points on the strength of a 4-for-6 showing from behind the arc. Abbie Zinobile and Kaleigh Roop each scored 13 points, while Roop grabbed nine rebounds and Zinobile registered seven boards. Abby Kulick recorded 11 points and notched two steals.
The Mounties shot 36-for-70 (51.4%) from the field, and held significant advantages in the rebounding department (54 to 35) and in bench scoring (42 to 17).
The game was close throughout the first half before a quick 6-0 spurt by Mount Aloysius highlighted by a Servello steal and layup with 14 seconds to play in the period gave the Mounties a 43-35 lead heading into the break. Mount Aloysius held on to the lead until 8:41 remaining when the Giants took a 67-66 advantage. The Mounties regained the lead less than two minutes later on a Zinobile jumper with 7:15 left on the clock, and kept the lead down the stretch to record the victory.
Aaliya Hayes led all scorers with 23 points for the Giants.
Mount Aloysius returns to action tomorrow when they will play host Marywood at 4 p.m.
