Box Score Cresson, PA - In a pivotal AMCC matchup, the Mavericks of Medaille College defeated the Mount Aloysius women's basketball team by a final score of 64-57 in AMCC action on Saturday afternoon.
Abbie Zinobile registered a double-double as she shot 6-for-9 from the floor while finishing with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Olivia Rupp also finished in double figures with 12 points to go with eight boards, and
Haley Bender recorded 12 points off the bench.
Alexis Restori contributed eight points and five assists from the point guard position.
Medaille led by six early on before the Mounties climbed back to take a 16-12 lead with 12:20 remaining in the first half after a three-point play from Zinobile. The Mounties held a slight lead until a Medaille basket put the visitors ahead 26-25 with 2:03 to go. Bender responded with a three-point shot with 1:04 left on the clock and Mount Aloysius took the 28-26 advantage into the break. The two sides traded the lead throughout the second half until a quick 7-0 run from Medaille gave the Mavericks a 51-42 lead with 8:02 left in the game. Mount Aloysius chipped away and got the deficit down to two points off of another Bender triple with 2:06 to go, but the Mounties suffered four turnovers on their next four possessions and Medaille went 5-for-6 from the free throw line to seal the victory.
The Mounties shot 22-for-59 from the floor (37.3%) and limited the Mavericks to 21-for-63 (33.3%) shooting from the field. The visitors held slight advantages in three-point shooting and free throw shooting, and also outrebounded Mount Aloysius by a 45-36 margin.
Lauren Jensen led Medaille in scoring with 23 points, and Alicia Montalvo added 21 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
Mount Aloysius falls to 5-8 in conference play and 8-10 overall. Medaille improves to 6-6 in the AMCC and 7-12 overall. The Mounties return to action on Wednesday with another important conference matchup as they will host Penn State Altoona at 6 p.m. Altoona currently sits at fourth in the AMCC standings while Mount Aloysius still has a hold on sixth place.
