Box Score Scranton, PA - Despite a late 16-4 run that cut the deficit to six points, the Mount Aloysius women's basketball team lost 60-53 to host Marywood University on Sunday afternoon at the Marywood University Tournment.
After the Mounties found themselves down 53-35 with 8:35 remaining in the ballgame, the visitors didn't allow a Pacer field goal for the rest of the game. Mount Aloysius cut the Marywood advantage to eights points on two free throws from
Abby Kulick with 3:57 to play, and
Alexia Servello scored on a jumper with 3:10 to go to make it a 54-47 game. The Mounties got as close as six points on two different occasions in the final minute, but couldn't compete the comeback attempt.
Marywood dominated the game early on as the Pacers scored the first 12 points of the game and led 27-7 halfway through the opening period. The Mounties dug in defensively and cut the lead to 31-19 heading into halftime.
Kulick was a rebound shy of a double-double for the Mounties with 16 points and nine rebounds. Servello scored 12 points, including eight of the team's first 10.
Abbie Zinobile finished with eight points, five rebounds and two blocks.
Marywood shot 38.6 percent from the field, holding Mount Aloysius Aloysius to 29 percent. The Mounties outrebounded the Pacers 48-38.
Servello was named to the All-Tournament team at the conclusion of the tournament for Mount Aloysius.
Mount Aloysius will return to action on Wednesday with an AMCC matchup against rival Penn State Altoona on the road at 6 p.m.
