Box Score Altoona, PA - Led by 26 points from
Dillon Bender, the Mount Aloysius men's basketball team got back on the winning track with an 87-81 victory over rival Penn State Altoona on Wednesday evening on the road in AMCC action.
Bender shot 8-for-12 overall, 5-for-6 from three-point range from 5-for-6 from the free throw line to finish with his season high of 26 points while adding five rebounds.
Tanner Thomas also finished in double figures with 18 points and seven boards, while
Nolan Doyle registered 13 points, five assists and three steals. Off the bench,
Tre Brown notched nine points and four assists and
Chad Eisenhuth recorded eight points.
The first half was a back-and-forth affair in which the two sides traded the lead on several occasions. The Mounties held a 32-30 lead with five minutes remaining in the first half, and went on a 10-6 run to take a 42-36 lead into intermission. In the second half, the host Lions never got closer than five points due to the inside-outside combo of Bender and Thomas. With 3:04 to go, Altoona cut the deficit to five. The Mounties responded with a free throw from Eisenhuth and layup by Thomas to bring the lead up to eight. Holding an 80-74 advantage in the game's final moments, Doyle clinched the ballgame with a three-point shot with one minute to play off of a feed from Brown.
The Mounties were outrebounded 50-35, but forced Altoona into 23 turnovers.
Altoona was paced by Evan Greening, who scored a game-high 30 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Dylan Leazier had 17 points, eight assists and eight rebounds.
Mount Aloysius returns to the court this weekend with a pair of home games. The Mounties will host D'Youville on Saturday at 3 p.m. and Pitt-Bradford on Sunday at 3 p.m.
