Abbie Zinobile contributed a game-high 17 points to lead the Mount Aloysius women's basketball team to a 65-51 victory over Penn State Altoona on Wednesday evening in AMCC action.
Zinobile shot 7-for-14 from the field and added six rebounds and three blocks as the Mounties limited the Lions to a 18-for-76 (23.1%) showing from the field.
Abby Kulick had a strong performance with 10 points, nine rebounds and four assists, while
Sydney Horel contributed 11 points off the Mount Aloysius bench. In her first start of the season,
Olivia Rupp grabbed nine rebounds and notched two steals.
Altoona scored the first four points of the game before the Mounties responded with a 10-0 run capped by two free throws from Rupp. Mount Aloysius pushed its advantage to double digits at 18-8 with 10:22 remaining in the first half on a jumper from
Kaleigh Roop, and a Horel layup on the fastbreak gave the Mounties a 12-point advantage with 1:26 remaining before Altoona scored the last four points off the half to cut the deficit to 30-22 heading into the break.
The Mounties continued to dig in defensively in order to keep the Lions at arm's length. A Kulick layup with 12:11 left in the game pushed the lead back to ten points. With 10:03 remaining in the ballgame,
Alexis Restori made two free throws to push the lead up to ten once again. The Mounties led by double digits throughout the remainder of the contest while capturing their third conference victory.
Mount Aloysius improves to 6-4 overall and 3-2 in conference play. They return to action this weekend with two home games, Saturday against D'Youville and Sunday against Pitt-Bradford. Both games are slated to start at 1 p.m.
