Box Score Pittsburgh, PA - In a rematch of an AMCC semifinal game from last season, the Mount Aloysius men's soccer team defeated La Roche by a final score of 5-2 on Tuesday afternoon.
Kyle Marshall had two goals, while
Jim Smith added one goal and two assists for the Mounties.
Thomas Sloan registered one goal and one assist, and
Diron Duah added a goal.
The Mounties scored two goals in just over two minutes in the early part of the first half. With 28:52 remaining in the period, Sloan scored the Mount's first goal on a left-footed shot off of a pass from Smith.
Kyle Marshall then scored on the Mounties next opportunity as he scored off of a loose ball in the Redhawk box.
Mount Aloysius increased the advantage to three eight minutes later.
Aubrey Brown made a fantastic run down the right wing and beat two defenders before slotting a pass to Duah who sent a shot past the charging keeper. The Mounties took a 3-0 lead into hafltime.
The Mounties continued to push on the offensive end as the second half began. Sloan beat a defender one-on-one then slipped the ball past the keeper before crossing to Marshall for a tap-in goal less than than five minutes into the second half. La Roche cut the lead to 4-1 on a set piece header three and a half minutes later, but Smith responded with the Mount's fifth goal of the game just two minutes after. Smith took a through ball from
Kevin Ouellette and lasered a shot from the top of the box to the bottom left corner.
The Redhawks got one more goal with 27 minutes remaining on a loose ball shot, but the Mountie backline limited opportunities for the remainder of the contest.
Justin Hann made four saves in net for the Mounties, who improve to 6-0 in conference play and 9-4-1 overall heading into a Saturday matchup at home against Medaille College.
