Mounties Complete Comeback to Defeat Mavericks

Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's soccer team came back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat visiting Medaille College by a final score of 2-1 on Saturday afternoon in AMCC action.

The Mounties pressured throughout the first half with point-blank chances coming from Kyle Marshall and Patrick Chea but couldn't convert. Jim Smith also had two near misses off free kicks, including a free kick attempt with 12 seconds remaining in the half. The Mavericks notched the only goal of the half off of a loose ball in the 27th minute, and Mount Aloysius went into halftime down 1-0.

Mount Aloysius continued to press forward in the second half with Thomas Sloan and Diron Duah experiencing near misses from shots inside the 18-yard box. The Mounties would find their equalizer at the 75:24 mark. Chea found the ball on the edge of the six yard box and hit a short cross that was finished by Sloan.

The Mounties weren't done as just over five minutes later Chea struck for the game winner. Smith again got the ball inside the box and chipped a cross over the charging keeper. Chea was alone at the back post and headed it home with 10:26 remaining in the game.

The Mountie backline withstood some late pressure from the Mavericks to record the victory.

Prior to Saturday's contest, the Mounties their three seniors Chea, Charlie Old and Claudio Vietti. The trio have helped the Mounties earn three consecutive conference playoff berths and 28 victories over the last three seasons.

Mount Aloysius improves to 10-4-1 overall and 7-0 in conference play. The Mounties will return to the field on Wednesday evening for a 7 p.m. non-conference match at Carnegie Mellon.
