Men's Soccer Falls in Overtime at CMU

Box Score
Pittsburgh, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's soccer team battled well against regionally ranked Carnegie Mellon University, but fell in overtime by a final score of 3-2 on Wednesday evening in a non-conference match on the road.

The Mounties limited the Tartan attack to eight shots on goal for the contest. After holding strong defensively early in the contest, Mount Aloysius found the first goal of the game off of a great hustle play from Zachary Herr. Herr pressured a ball over the top and forced a defensive error that resulted in an own goal and a 1-0 Mountie lead with eight minutes left in the half. However, Carnegie Mellon responded with a goal as the half came to a close. The Tartans scored with just six seconds remaining in the period to knot things up at 1-1 at halftime.

The Mountie backline led by Todd Azeles and Alex Duthie continued to limit the CMU opportunites throughout the second half of play. With four and a half minutes remaining in regulation, the Mounties capitalized on a corner kick opportunity. Aubrey Brown struck for his first goal of the season as he lasered in a shot off of a Jim Smith corner kick.

The Tartans responded once again as a CMU striker knocked in a loose ball with just over three minutes showing in the second half, and the two sides went into overtime.

It took just one shot to end the game as the Tartans scored four and a half minutes into the extra period to end the game.

Kyle Lachance made five saves in net for the Mounties, who drop to 10-5-1 overall.

Mount Aloysius returns to the field on Saturday with a road match at Penn State Behrend. The Mounties (7-0 in the AMCC) and Behrend (8-0 in the AMCC) will be playing for the regular season title and number one seed in the upcoming AMCC Tournament.
