Box Score Hamburg, NY - The Mount Aloysius men's soccer team registered its third consecutive conference shutout, and freshman
Deekai Gbonimy scored two goals off the bench as the Mounties defeated Hilbert College by a final score of 2-0 on Saturday afternoon on the road.
Justin Hann stopped five shots for his third shutout of the season, including a fantastic tip save off of a Hilbert header following a corner kick midway through the first half.
Gbonimy made his presence felt right away as he scored less than two minutes after entering the game in the first half. Gbonimy took a through ball from
Jim Smith and lasered a shot to the top corner to give the Mounties a 1-0 lead at the 23:39 mark.
The Mountie backline had to deal with pressure from the Hilbert attack down the stretch of the first half, but were able to carry the one-goal advantage into the halftime break.
Mount Aloysius pressed forward in the early stages of the second half but were unable to add to the lead. Gbonimy again came off the bench to score a goal with 18 minutes remaining. Gbonimy took a pass from
Diron Duah after a deflected shot and buried his second goal of the game.
The Mounties improve to 3-0 in conference play and 6-4-1 overall. They will host Pitt-Greensburg in a conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m.
