Box Score 2 Roanoke, VA - The Mount Aloysius men's basketball team fell in the championship game at the Roanoke Turkey Weekend Tournament on Sunday by a final score of 102-90 to host Roanoke. The Mounties had advanced to the championship game after a 77-75 victory over Goucher on Saturday.
In the Saturday win against Goucher,
Arin Wade led the Mounties with 20 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Three other Mount Aloysius players scored 13 points:
Dillon Bender,
Jourdan Lamberth and
Chad Eisenhuth.
Joe Dziabo registered eight points and five rebounds.
Tre Brown converted a pair of free throws to put the Mounties 77-74 with three seconds remaining. After a Mountie foul with :.08 seconds left, Goucher hit the first free throw before missing the second. Goucher couldn't get a shot attempt up before the final buzzer sounded.
Mount Aloysius led 33-31 at the end of the first half and led by as many as seven points in the second half before Goucher climbed their way back into the game. The two sides went back-and-forth down the stretch exchanging the lead before the Mounties escaped with the victory.
The win set the Mounties up with a championship matchup with the host school on Sunday. Despite 25 points from Bender and a 20 point, 12 rebound effort from Dziabo, the Mounties couldn't keep up with the Maroons high-tempo offense. Wade also finished in double figures with 11 points. Tre Brown contributed seven assists, and Drew Knowles grabbed nine rebounds.
Mount Aloysius fell behind by 18 points at halftime and would get no closer than 12 points in the second half.
The Mounties shot the ball extremely well from behind the arc on the weekend, going 18-for-43 (41.8%) from three-point territory. Wade and Bender were named to the All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of the tournament.
Mount Aloysius returns to the court on Wednesday with their AMCC opener at 6 p.m. at Franciscan University.
