Box Score Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's basketball team made a strong final push in the closing minutes of a non-conference matchup with visiting Drew University on Wednesday evening, but couldn't come all the way back as the Mounties fell 89-88 to the Rangers.
The Mounties were down by ten points with three minutes to go in the game before making a run. With 1:34 remaining, a
Dillon Bender three-point shot cut the Drew advantage to 84-79.
Tre Brown made a layup on the next possession to make it a 84-81 game, and the Mounties made it a one-point game with two free throws from
Arin Wade in the final seconds. Mount Aloysius had a chance to win it on a full-court shot at the buzzer but it didn't connect as Drew escaped with the victory.
The two teams traded baskets early on before Drew went on a 10-0 run to make it 26-15 with 10:12 remaining in the opening half. The Mounties got as close as seven points down the stretch of the first half before the Rangers scored the final five points of the period to take a 54-42 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Rangers held a comfortable advantage throughout the half until the late Mountie run.Â
The Mounties had four players in double figures led by 15 points from Wade. Bender and
Chad Eisenhuth each scored 14 points, and
Jourdan Lamberth registered 13 points on the strength of a 9-for-9 shooting effort from the free throw line. Eisenhuth recorded seven rebounds, while Brown dished five assists.
Mount Aloysius falls to 4-7 overall and will resume conference action next Wednesday, January 6th when the Mounties host rival Penn State Altoona at home at 6 p.m. Â
