Second Half Surge Pushes Mounties to Win

Hamburg, NY - The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team came back from a nine-point halftime deficit to defeat host Hilbert College by a final score of 59-54 on Saturday afternoon in AMCC action.

After falling behind 35-26 at the half, the Mounties took less than four minutes to tie the game up in the third quarter. With 6:08 remaining in the period, Breana Kendrick hit two free throws to tie the game at 37-37. Mount Aloysius continued its strong play on the defensive end and ended the quarter up 43-41 on the scoreboard.

A three-point shot from Abby Kulick gave the Mounties a 51-46 advantage with 6:21 remaining in the game. Mount Aloysius continued to hold a slight lead, as the Hawks cut the deficit to one at 53-52 with 1:27 to go. Kendrick responded with a jumper and two free throws on back-to-back possessions, and Alexia Servello clinched the game with two successful free throws with six seconds left.

The Mounties forced 27 turnovers using a full-court press for large stretches of the game, while only committing 10 turnovers on the offensive end. Kulick recorded four steals, while Kendrick had three and Servello had two.

Offensively, Servello led the way with 17 points. Kulick also finished in double figures with 12 while dishing four assists, and Abbie Zinobile registered eight points, four rebounds and four blocked shots.

The win is the third in a row for the Mounties, who move to 3-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Mount Aloysius returns to the court on Wednesday at La Roche at 8 p.m.
