Box Score Cresson, PA - Visiting Penn State Behrend built a 39-19 halftime lead and never looked back in a 80-57 victory over the Mount Aloysius men's basketball team on Saturday afternoon.
The Mounties, who honored seniors
Tanner Thomas and
Nolan Doyle as part of Senior Day, shot just 8-for-24 in the first half while the Lions shot 16-for-27 in the opening period of play. Mount Aloysius hung tough early against the conference-leading Lions and led 12-8 after a Thomas layup with 14:10 to go. However, the visitors went on a 16-2 run to lead 24-14 with 8:19 remaining, and carried that momentum down the stretch of the first half to lead by 20 at the break. Behrend led by at least 20 points throughout the second half to notch the victory.
Thomas and Doyle led the Mounties in their final home game of their four-year careers. Thomas scored 24 points on 9-for-19 shooting while adding six rebounds. Doyle scored 12 points on a perfect 6-for-6 effort from the field, dished six assists and registered four steals. Also finishing in double figures was
Dillon Bender with 10 points.
While the Mounties won the turnover battle 16-14, they were outrebounded by the Lions by a 38-21 margin. Zane Hackett led Behrend with 20 points and nine rebounds.
Mount Aloysius returns to action on Wednesday with a trip to Pitt-Greensburg for an AMCC matchup at 8 p.m. The Mounties (6-10 in AMCC) now trail D'Youville (7-10 in AMCC) by 1/2 game in the race for the sixth and final playoff spot.
