Box Score Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's basketball team earned a 78-62 victory over Penn State Altoona on Wednesday evening in AMCC action.
Tanner Thomas scored 23 points and added 11 rebounds.
Dillon Bender hit five shots from behind the arc and finished the game with 20 points, while
Nolan Doyle mixed 12 points, six assists and six steals. Off the Mountie bench,
Darius Beresford scored 10 points and
Tre Brown recorded six assists.
The Mounties led by a slim margin early before a 10-2 run gave the home side a 23-13 advantage that was capped by a Beresford layup with 12:30 remaining in the first half. The Mountie advantage hovered around double digits, and two free throws from Doyle expanded the lead to 13 with just over two minutes left on the clock. Mount Aloysius took a 43-32 lead into the break.
Mount Aloysius continued to execute on the offensive end to keep the visiting Lions at bay throughout the second half. Their lead increased to 16 points at 59-43 after a three-point play from
Joe Dziabo with 9:14 to go. The lead stayed at double digits for the rest of the ballgame, with the exclamation point of the victory being a Beresford dunk in traffic with 3:26 left in the ballgame.
The Mounties shot 28-for-55 (50.9%) from the field and 15-for-18 (83.3%) from the line. Altoona was led by Christopher Rogelio Olan, who scored 15 points.
Mount Aloysius returns to action on Saturday with a critical conference matchup at D'Youville at 3 p.m. The Mounties will enter the game with a 6-8 record in conference play, while D'Youville currently sits at 5-9. A win will put the Mounties in good position for a playoff spot in the AMCC race.
