Mounties Defeated by Altoona

Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team lost a tight battle by a score of 69-65 to visiting Penn State Altoona in AMCC action on Wednesday evening.

The Mounties led by 12 points with 14:03 remaining in the game, and held an 11 point advantage at 46-35 after Sydney Horel went 1-for-2 from the free throw line with 12:12 left on the clock. Altoona then went on an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to three points with 10:30 to go, and the visitors took the lead at the 7:38 mark at 49-48. Altoona expanded their lead to eight points with 3:04 to go before the Mounties would cut the lead to three at 64-61 on two Abby Kulick free throws with just over a minute to play. Despite two buckets from Olivia Rupp in the final minute, Mount Aloysius couldn't overcome the deficit.

Mount Aloysius came out strong early on and led 22-10 with just over six minutes remaining in the first half after a basket from Rupp. Altoona gradually chipped away and the Mounties lead would stand at 32-27 heading into the halftime break.

Abbie Zinobile finished with 18 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks for the Mounties. Rupp registered 16 points and six boards, and Kulick finished in double figures with 13 points. Alexis Restori hustled for 10 rebounds.

Moira Corrigan paced Altoona with 21 points and eight rebounds.

The Mounties were hurt by 21 turnovers, while the visiting Lions had just 11. The visitors also held an advantage at the free throw line as they hit 19 free throws compared to seven for Mount Aloysius.

Mount Aloysius returns to action on Saturday with a trip to D'Youville. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. in Buffalo, NY.
