Box Score 4 Myrtle Beach, SC - The Mount Aloysius baseball team concluded its spring break trip to Myrtle Beach this past Friday with a winning record of 5-4.
The Mounties got their trip off to a good start with back-to-back victories over Scranton University in their opening doubleheader. In the first game, the Mount's
Derrick Capiak earned the victory after pitching five innings and giving up just two earned runs.
Kirk Davis and
Dylan Oswalt each recorded two RBI's for the Mounties, while Davis and
Benjamin Legath both had two hits. The Mounties scored four runs in the top of the seventh to earn the win. In the second game,
Daniel Resavy threw a complete game on the hill for the Mount and struck out six while allowing two earned runs.
Connor Bowie and Legath had two hits apiece, and Mount Aloysius had another decisive at-bat late in the game as the Mounties scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth to seize control.
Mount Aloysius improved to 3-0 with the highlight victory of their trip, a come-from-behind 13-10 win over Albertus Magnus. Down 9-2, the Mounties scored 11 runs in their last three at-bats to earn the win.
Patrick Gully was the offensive catalyst as he went 4-for-4 at the plate with a triple, two doubles and five RBI's.
The Mounties followed up their 3-0 start with three close defeats: 3-0 against Washington College, 7-4 against Catholic University and 13-12 in a heartbreaker in 10 innings to Bridgewater College.
Mount Aloysius got back on the winning note with a 12-8 victory over Penn State Harrisburg on Thursday. Legath had three hits and two runs scored, and
Cory Dick notched three RBI's. The game went to extra innings tied 8-8 before the Mounties scored four runs in their first at-bat in extras.
Christopher Nolan earned the win with two innings of scoreless relief. Harrisburg would win game two of the doubleheader despite a strong pitching performance from the Mounties
Kyle Droz, who pitched five innings while allowing just one earned run.
The Mounties concluded their trip with an impressive offensive display in a 21-6 victory over the University of Valley Forge. Bowie led the Mount offensively with a 3-for-4 showing at the plate including a home run, and
Greg Wierzbicki tossed eight innings in relief to earn the win. Wierzbicki struck out 10 Valley Forge hitters.
The Mounties return to action on Tuesday with a non-conference matchup against St. Vincent scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
