Box Score Johnstown, PA - Led by the offensive output of junior outfielder
Connor Bowie, the Mount Aloysius baseball team rallied to defeat St. Vincent by a final score of 12-10 in a nine-inning game on Tuesday afternoon at Point Stadium in Johnstown.
Bowie, who hit .423 last week with three home runs and six RBI's on the Mounties spring trip, went 4-for-5 at the plate against St. Vincent with a triple, home run and two RBI's.
Kyle Droz was another offensive catalyst for Mount Aloysius as he hit 3-for-4 with two doubles, one single and one RBI.
In the first inning,
Kirk Davis scored off of a Bowie triple to give the Mounties a 1-0 edge, and Bowie came around on a
Benjamin Legath groundout to make it 2-0 after the first inning. The Bearcats tied the game 2-2 in the second inning, and St. Vincent took a 7-2 advantage after four and a half innings of play before the Mounties rallied.
Back-to-back doubles from Droz and
Cory Dick in the bottom of the fifth made it 7-3, and
Ian Helsel slugged a two-run home run to make it a 7-5 ballgame heading into the sixth inning. Bowie continued the rally with a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the sixth, and a sac fly from
TJ Wardwell later in the inning brought home Legath to tie it at 7-7 after six innings.
The Bearcats regained the lead at 8-7 before Davis hit a two-run homer to give the Mounties a 9-8 edge in the bottom of the seventh. Mount Aloysius extended the lead to 12-8 after Legath (double), Droz (double) and Dick (single) all produced RBIs. St. Vincent added a single run in the eighth and ninth innings, but
Brady Wright ultimately shut the door to help the Mounties record their sixth win of the season.
Rodney Patterson earned the win on the mound after pitching four innings of relief.
The Mounties improve to 6-4 on the season and return to action on Thursday against Bethany College at home at 2 p.m.
