Box Score Johnstown, PA - The Mount Aloysius baseball team won their third game in a row with a 4-1 win over Bethany College on Thursday afternoon in non-conference action at Point Stadium in Johnstown.
Derrick Capiak got the start on the hill for the Mounties and came out blazing as he struck out the side in the first inning, and the game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth. Mount Aloysius got on the scoreboard with an RBI single from
Kyle Droz that scored
Kirk Davis to make it a 1-0 ballgame.
Capiak continued his strong performance and the Mounties held the 1-0 advantage until the top of the seventh, when Bethany evened the game at 1-1.
Mount Aloysius played some small ball in the home seventh. After Droz walked and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt,
Jared Elliot laid down a beautiful bunt that scored Droz from third base to make it 2-1. With the bases loaded, Davis then provided the bit hit of the inning with an RBI single to right that scored Elliot and
Jordan Campano to provide the home side with a 4-1 lead.
Cameron Kyle then shut the door on Bethany as he pitched two scoreless innings to close out the game. Capiak was credited with the victory after going seven innings while striking out 11.
Mount Aloysius improves to 7-4 on the season. The Mounties are set to return to action on Saturday with a doubleheader at Gettysburg College slated to begin at 12:30 p.m.
