Box Score Gettysburg, PA - Despite jumping out to a 4-0 lead in their first at-bat, the Mount Aloysius baseball team lost by a final score of 8-5 to host Gettysburg College on Thursday afternoon in non-conference action.
Ian Helsel and
Kirk Davis began the game with back-to-back singles, and two batters later
Benjamin Legath singled to center field to score Helsel. With the bases loaded and two outs,
Cory Dick came up clutch with a single that brought in three runs to make it 4-0 in favor of the Mounties.
The Bullets got two runs back in the bottom of the first off Mountie starter
Greg Wierzbicki, and added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie things up at 4-4.

Tristan Gelvin helped the visitors take back the lead with an RBI single down the leftfield line that scored Dick to make it 5-4 in the top of the sixth. Gettysburg responded with a solo home run in their at-bat to create a 5-5 tie after six innings of action.
The Bullets scored two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth to take an 8-5 advantage, and the Mounties were retired in order in their final two at-bats to end the ballgame.
Wierzbicki battled through six innings as he gave up seven hits and five runs while strikout out six. Offensively, Legath went 3-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI. Dick went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and
Jesse Bortner went 2-for-3 while drawing one walk.
Mount Aloysius returns to the field on Saturday when they host Penn State Behrend for a conference doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
