Baseball Splits with Hilbert

Houghton, NY - After dropping game one by a final score of 4-2, the Mount Aloysius baseball team responded with a 10-2 victory in game two as the Mounties split an AMCC doubleheader with Hilbert College on Saturday evening on the campus of Houghton College.

The Mounties held a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the third after Bryn Brown singled home Kyle Droz. Pitcher Cameron Kyle kept the Hawks off the board until the hosts scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 4-1 lead. Kirk Davis scored in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit to 4-2, but the Mounties only managed one hit in their final at-bat as Hilbert registered the victory in game one.

Brown and Davis each recorded two hits to lead the Mounties offensively in game one as the Mounties held a 10-5 advantage in hits for the game.

In game two, Mountie pitcher Daniel Resavy led the visitors to victory as he pitched eight innings while allowing just seven hits and two earned runs. Mount Aloysius jumped out to a 5-1 lead after two innings. In the top of the first, Benjamin Legath brought home two runs with a single to center field. Connor Bowie followed with a single that brought in two more runs in the second inning, and Legath drove home Ian Helsel in the second to make it a 5-0 ballgame before Hilbert got one back in the bottom of the inning.

With the game at 6-2 in favor of the Mounties, Legath continued his hot hitting with a single up the middle that scored Helsel in the top of the seventh. Droz followed with a single of his own to score Legath to make it 8-2. Mount Aloysius added two more runs in the eighth inning courtesy of a Brown single that scored TJ Wardwell and Davis to create the 10-2 scoreline. In the final inning, Nicholas DiDiano retired the Hawks in order as the Mounties notched the win.

Legath finished 4-for-4 with four RBI's and one run scored in game two, while Brown, Helsel and Droz each finished with two hits. Resavy earned his second victory of the season on the mound.

Mount Aloysus now stands at 13-10 overall and 4-4 in conference play. The Mounties will face Medaille tomorrow in Buffalo in an AMCC doubleheader set to begin at 1 p.m.
