Mounties Fall to Nationally-Ranked Shenandoah

Box Score
Winchester, VA - The Mount Aloysius baseball team fell by a final score of 21-2 on Monday afternoon to nationally-ranked Shenandoah University on the road at Bridgeforth Field.

The Mounties kept the Hornets, the nation's No. 9 team in the latest D3baseball.com poll, off the board for the first four innings as the visitors secured a 1-0 advantage after four and a half innings. Mount Aloysius scored in the top of the second inning as a Kirk Davis RBI groundout brought home Benjamin Legath.

Mountie pitcher Greg Wierzbicki stayed in control early on as he limited Shenandoah to one hit through their first four at-bats. However, the Hornets struck in the fifth inning as the home side sent 18 runs across the plate on 15 hits off of Wierzbicki and the Mountie bullpen. The Hornets added three more runs in the bottom of the seventh before the Mounties closed the scoring with a Dalton Garlock run in their final at-bat.

Legath and TJ Wardwell each had two hits to pace the Mounties offensively. Jordan Campano (double), Connor Bowie (single) and Bryan Buzi (single) added one hit apiece. William McCabe threw a scoreless eighth inning out of the bullpen for Mount Aloysius.

The Mounties drop to 14-12 overall on the season and return to the field tomorrow with a non-conference doubleheader at home against Juniata. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
