Box Score 2 Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius baseball team lost to visiting La Roche College by scores of 7-2 and 7-0 on Thursday afternoon in AMCC action. The Mounties fall to 3-3 in conference play and 11-9 overall on the season.
In game one, Mount Aloysius pitcher
Derrick Capiak kept the Mounties in the game throughout against a high-powered Redhawk offense. La Roche scored four runs in the opening five innings to take a 4-0 advantage, and Capiak departed in the top of the seventh after allowing five runs over six-plus innings on the hill. Capiak struck out 10 and allowed seven hits for the game.
The Mounties faced a 7-0 deficit heading into their final at-bat.
Jesse Bortner delivered the Mount's first run of the game with a pinch-hit solo home run to lead off the inning to cut the lead to 7-1. After
TJ Wardwell tripled two batters later,
Patrick Gully drove him home with a groundout to make it a 7-2 ballgame.
Ian Helsel then reached base with a single, but La Roche was able to register the final out to record the victory.
Wardwell led the Mounties with two of their seven hits in game one.
In game two, La Roche scored seven runs in the first four innings to seize control. The Mountie bullpen of
Rodney Patterson,
Christopher Nolan and
Brady Wright limited La Roche to six hits over six innings of relief, but the Mounties couldn't get anything going offensively despite recording six hits.
Mount Aloysius returns to action on Monday with a non-conference doubleheader against Wilkes at home. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
