Box Score 2 Cresson, PA - After winning game one by a final score of 6-1, the Mount Aloysius baseball team picked up a 6-5 extra-inning victory in game two to record the conference sweep over visiting Pitt-Bradford on Saturday afternoon in AMCC action.
In game one, the Mount's
Derrick Capiak dominated on the mound as he struck out 10 hitters in a complete-game effort. Capiak allowed seven hits and one run for the ballgame.
The Mounties scored single runs in their first three at-bats.
Kyle Droz hit an RBI single in the first inning to score
Connor Bowie, and
TJ Wardwell doubled home
Cory Dick in the second. Mount Aloysius made it 3-0 in the third when Bowie scored on a wild pitch.
Bowie doubled the Mounties lead in the bottom of the fourth with a three-run home run, his 7th homer of the season. With a 6-0 lead, Capiak allowed a fifth-inning run before closing the door in the Panthers final two at-bats.
Bowie finished game one 2-for-3 with three RBI's and three runs scored. Droz and Wardwell added two hits apiece.
The Panthers jumped out to a 5-0 lead with five runs in the top of the third in game two. Mount Aloysius got two runs back in the bottom of the inning courtesy of a
Bryn Brown home run and a Droz RBI single. The Mounties were still down 5-2 in the bottom of the seventh when Droz and
Dalton Garlock registered RBI singles to cut the deficit to 5-4.
Down 5-4 heading into their last at-bat, Brown hit his second solo home run of the game to tie things up at 5-5. The Mounties would load the bases with two outs, but Wardwell flew out to center to send the game into extra innings.
Brady Wright retired the Panthers in order in the 10th inning. With runners on second and third and one away, Bowie came up clutch with a walkoff single to give the Mounties the game two victory.
Garlock led the Mounties with four hits in game two. Brown and Bowie each finished 3-for-6, and Droz was 3-for-5 at the plate as the Mounties finished with 17 hits. Bowie now has 11 hits in his last four games.
Rodney Patterson (five innings) and Wright combined to pitch seven scoreless innings out of the bullpen for Mount Aloysius in game two.
With the victories, the Mounties improve to 20-16 overall and 10-6 in conference play. Mount Aloysius will most likely enter the conference tournament as the #3 seed. They will return to the field on Wednesday for a non-conference doubleheader at Frostburg State University. The Bobcats are 32-3 and currently ranked second in the nation.
